Understanding Escorted Tour Itineraries

Posted on Monday, October 31, 2011

Thinking about taking an escorted tour?  Here is a glossary of some common terms used in our itineraries:

Visit - Your coach will stop and you'll get to visit a specific site.
View - A brief stop and an opportunity to take photos.
See - Your Insight coach will drive by the site so that you can see it.
Sightseeing tour - A local city guide will accompany you on a tour of a city or site.
Orientation tour - Places of interest are pointed out, allowing you to go and explore them on your own.
'Why not see' or 'perhaps enjoy' - These phrases refer to optional excursions not included in the tour package, but are available for an additional fee.
Time to explore and discover - Free time on your own.
A day to relax - No planned activities; time for optional excursions or other independent activities.

Our tour specialists are always available to help you understand what is included on a tour vacation, so that you can plan how much money to budget on your European vacation.

Florence, Italy

AN AFTERNOON IN FLORENCE

When we travel, my husband and I enjoy the half day city sightseeing tours to get acquainted with a destination.  However, rather than choose another tour for the afternoon, we enjoy getting to know the ambiance, local shops and people.   After a visit to the Academy to see the famous Michaelangelo’s David as well as the artist’s numerous unfinished and fascinating sculptures, we went to the Arno River.   The only bridge to survive World War II was the Ponte Vecchio and it is a must!  It’s a short walk actross the Arno with lovely little open air jewelers and other shops and when you arrive at the south end of the bridge, there are charming outdoor dining venues with incredible pasta.   After relaxing over a leisurely lunch, walk just a few steps to the fabulous Pitti Palace.  This was originally owned by a Pitti but is famous as the residence of the infamous Medici family.  It’s a small art museum and the Boboli Gardens behind the museum are also well worth a look.   Besides lush plantings, there are waterfalls, reflecting pools, sculptures and an amazing view of Florence itself as it is up on a hill.  Great photo ops…

Best Hawaii Beaches for Families

Posted on Wednesday, April 13, 2011

Hawaii tours are a top destination for a family vacation, especially for families with kids who love to spend time on the beach. The Aloha State has a ton of beaches to choose from, but some may not be suitable for small children because of deep waters or overpopulated shore space.

Taking these and other factors into account, the San Francisco Chronicle recently listed some of the best beaches for families to visit in Hawaii. The news source took into account things like ease of access, suitable facilities, and large, open spaces for kids to play comfortably. While many private beaches at Hawaii's all-inclusive resorts fit this criteria, the list is limited to public beaches that everyone can access.

On the island of Oahu, many tourists will opt for the famous sands of Waikiki beach. However, families might want to head for the more secluded Sans Souci beach. This spot is less crowded, and located right by the Waikiki Aquarium.

Other beaches that made the list include Ha'Puna Beach on the Big Island, Kama'ole Beach Park on Maui, and Anini Beach Park on Kauai.

If that's not enough reason to book a trip to Hawaii, parents might be interested to know that Hawaii was recently voted the top family vacation destination in the world by readers of the luxury travel website Virtuoso.
